The Prime factorisation of a number is 2^4 X 3^5 X 7^2 X 11.

Write down 3 factors of the number that are greater than 100.

(Hint: 16 X 11 = 176, which is a factor.)

Since 16=2x2x2x2, I will take 3^5 and 7^2 times 11.

3x3x3x3x3x11=2673

7x7x11=539

I still need another factor hence I will take 3^4 multiply by 11.

3x3x3x3x11=891

hence, the three factors are 2673, 539 and 891.

Textbook p9 #26:

The Prime factorisation of two numbers are 2 X 3^2 X 7^3 X 13 and3 X 7^2 X 13^3 X 17 .

Write down 3 common factors of the numbers.

The three common factors are 3,7 and 13.

Prime numbers

A mathematician proposed that "Every even number greater than 2 can be expressed as a sum of prime numbers."Do you agree? Why?

I agree. According to the Goldbalch's theory, every even number greater than two can be expressed as a sum of two primes. For example...

4=2+2

6=3+3

8=5+3

and so on...

Besides that, any even number more than 5 can be written as a sum of three primes. This magical equation is one of the oldest unsolved problems in number theory.

12 January: Numbers as a Language

I chose the Babylonian number system as I think that it is special and we have to learn 60 basic numbers before using them. I think that it can represent 2010 because I think learning the numbers needs perseverance and I hope that I can perseverance throughout the year, juggling with my school work and my own time.

Why is communication important?

It is important as it will help you to convey the correct message and the correct information to other people.

What is/are your favourite form/s of communication? Why?

My favourite form of communication is using the online instant messaging. I like to use online instant messaging as it is convenient and it is easy to express myself with the variety of emoticons available.

How do you decide which form of communication to use in a situation?

I would use a phone to communicate when dealing with something very urgent. If not, I would use SMS or online instant messaging to communicate.

What difficulties do you face in communicating with others?

As I speak rather fast sometimes, people cannot catch what I say.

• I feel great about it as working in a group will reduce the time needed and I can work with my classmates and understand them.

• I think that my interactions with the members in the team could be improved as I was busy typing and did no really helped with the building of the bridge.
